Today's maintenance consisted of upgrading the wiki's software to the latest release. The version that it was running was dropped by the wikimedia foundation and was not getting security updates so upgrading was a must to keep the Galaxypedia secure.
The reason for the upgrade lasting a long time was that I had made custom CSS changes to the Vector skin that the Galaxypedia was using, and forgot to document said changes. It took me a long time to merge the files, extensions, images, databases, skins, styles, and more. The maintenance totalled 2 hours.
The maintenance started with downloading the latest Mediawiki release, copying over the images, and doing some cleaning to prepare the workspace. Then I started copying over settings, where I then started copying extensions. Because extensions only work for a specific Mediawiki version, I had to get the latest version of all of the extensions which took roughly 1 hour. After that I started copying over styles. Like I said before, the Galaxypedia had made changes to Mediawiki’s core, which meant that I had to manually find the correct files to edit and make the same edits I made originally. This was a very lengthy process and I spent a lot of time scratching my head trying to figure out what file is the one I need. Eventually I found the file, and found out what patches I made originally, and applied the patches.
After spending a bit of time verifying the upgrade and testing things out, It seems like the Galaxypedia is in a stable state and is ready to start serving users. If you encounter any errors or bugs please join the Galaxypedia Discord Server and open a ticket! Thank you.
